LA BOHEME PAINTING - The painting on the label of the 2003 La Boheme was produced by Vaclav Krejcik, one of Mike and Laura Laurent Mrachek's relatives in the Czech Republic.
In 1996 Vaclav was commissioned to paint a picture for an art museum depicting the life of a famous writer, Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997). Bohumil was famous for his writing that mocked the communist regime in a manner that often confused the censors looking for something subversive in his texts. He was best known for the style in which he wrote.
The painting on the label was inspired by the life of Bohumil, who was known for his love of cats. By the end of his life, he had over 100 cats in and around his home. Vaclav having a playful side as a painter decided it would be better to paint Bohumil as an old lady living with her cats. The rat on the lady's plate, is the final mocking of the communist regime.
The painting has become one of Vaclav's most famous works.
